1099 Café

A safe space to discuss, digest, and share freelance, real estate, & personal finance topics, in everyday language.

Many people wonder what is a freelancer exactly? A freelancer is what you make of it, and it’s different for everyone.

For some, it’s a side hobby and not a means to make money. For others, it’s what they spend all their time doing and their primary source of income.

And for a majority of the freelancing community—when it comes to finances, complicated language and terms act as roadblocks and prevent freelancers from reaching their full potential. It may feel overwhelming to have no guidance while already being on a volatile journey. I’m here to help.

I’m Wesley and I’m a co-founder, REALTOR, freelancer, and CFO. I created 1099 Café to offer simple, easy-to-digest, information around finance for freelancers.

I am fortunate enough to have had formal education in Finance and Accounting and many of these topics and terms come to me more naturally. All of the content on the website is my own voice and my only goal is to simplify an otherwise convoluted ecosystem to help you.

To me, there is nothing more quintessential to being a freelancer than receiving a 1099 form from clients and having meetups/doing work at a café. I wanted to combine these two concepts and create a safe space where information is readily available and freelancers can engage and help each other out.
